The Amazing Journey of Ink

Everyone needs ink, it is a given fact. The first document printed is the day we are born and it will be our Birth Certificate, name, date and place of birth, now we exist in writing and Ink was used to make it happen.

But before there was Ink there was thought, the need to express ourselves and document history and when need arises humans have been amazing in their inventions throughout evolution. The first cave paintings were found in France, drawings of animals and hunters.

The Chinese had Ink 2300 BC made of natural plant dyes, Ink in India was used at least 400 BC and was made of burnt bones, tar and pitch. Ancient Rome used Atramentum, meaning a very black substance based on carbon. The first fountain pen was used in Egypt in 953 to do calligraphy. In the 15th century Johannes Gutenberg invented the Printing Press, the Great-Great-Great Grandfather of all printers which needed a new sort of ink.

But what is INK?????
Encyclopedia tells me that Ink is a liquid or paste that contains pigments or dyes and is used to color a surface to produce an image, text or design. Ink is used for drawing or writing with a pen, brush or quill or in a printer. Ink is made of 4 components: Colorant, binders, additives and carrier substances. Ink is divided in 4 classes: Aqueous, liquid, paste and powder.
