Frosting Sheets Vs Rice Paper- Which One is the Best for Edible Printing?

Printing on Edible Paper is an outstanding way to decorate cakes and cookies. The printing is done basically on two types of edible paper- wafer paper, also known as edible rice paper and frosting sheets which are also called icing sheets.

Wafer paper is a starch-based edible paper and Frosting Sheets are like thin layers of frosting that have been pressed onto a flexible plastic backing. Edible images printed onto wafer paper will not be so high quality as those printed on frosting sheets making it not suitable for impressive photo cakes. The best use of wafer paper is to print things like leaves, wings, flowers and butterflies. The rice paper dissolves in water not frosting so it will not completely dissolve into the base of a frosted cake. Eventually, edible rice paper may be noticeable when cutting or eating the cake. Moreover, it also has a tendency to curl or screw up when refrigerated or placed on moist cakes.

On the other hand, frosting sheets are regarded as the preferred form of “edible paper” for use on cakes. Edible images printed onto frosting sheets will come out more in vibrant color and crisper lines than those printed on wafer paper. Frosting sheets are meant to give you good quality photos for your cakes and melt into the icing. It mixed up so well that you won’t even know it’s there when you cut the cake. Thus it is clear that the frosting paper provides a better picture and is easier to use.
